Canteen Cover Kit

Canteen Cover Kts: These kits include Material to cover the canteen, Canteen Strap and Cork with correct attachment for depot. Each of the various depots issued canteens slightly different and we offer the options of which depot along with type and color of cover.

Some of the differences are: New York Depot, folded cotton strap with "T.F. Bayles, U.S. Inspctor" stamp and cork with chain. Cincinnati Depot, folded cotton strap with maker "Holenshade" and U.S. Inspector A. G. Spencer" and cork with twine attached and Philadelphia Depot had cotton twill strap with no maker or inspector stamp and cork with twine attachment.

Each of the Depots are available with the option of material, please specify below.

Replacement Canteen Strap

Cloth strap for the tin and stainless canteens. Available in plain or stamped with either "Holenshade Morris & Co." (maker), "A.G. Spencer U.S. Insp." for Cincinnati Depot canteens or "T.F. Bayles U.S. Inspector" for New York Depot canteens. Please specify which stamp you prefer.

Leather Canteen Strap

A durable leather strap with single roller buckle. This style of strap dates back to about the time of the war of 1812. The US Army used it until early 1863 when all canteens were equipped with cloth straps. This reduced the time it took to get a canteen to the field. Made in the U.S.A.
