Made of leather, the thumbstall is used by the gunner to stop the vent when the barrel is being swabbed out so that no residue or hot ashes blow up the vent and prematurely ignite the next powder load. The leather tie is tied around the wrist of the user to keep the thumbstall in position. Hand-cut and stitched in Gettysburg, PA.
