This is a good P1856 bayonet with unfortunately an amateurish repair to the handle. It does have the full length blade, 22.8 inches and is full Yataghan (curved) in form. Condition wise, the bayonet is good, with a lovely aged patina to the metal work, and the mechanism works without fault. The grip scales have shrunk slightly on one side, pins are present, but a previous owner used glue to secure the grips and likely soldered the blade to the hilt. This style of bayonet was imported and used by both sides during the American Civil War.
