This fireman trumpet is the perfect gift for a Fireman or Civil War Fireman re-enactor. Fire Chiefs and Crew Foremen used this type of trumpet to direct fire-fighting efforts in the early-nineteenth century, when bucket brigades and hand pumpers were the standard fire-fighting technology for volunteer fire departments. Fire trumpets were used by a company’s officers to shout orders and encouragement over the noise of a fire. Working, or duty, trumpets were of plain brass while presentation trumpets (as with this example) were usually more elaborate in design.
With the introduction of steam pumpers in the mid-nineteenth century, trumpets fell out of use and became more ceremonial than functional.
Made of polished brass,19″ in height and 6″ in diameter.
