Lewis J. & Issac Phillips was a major producer of forage caps, contracted for almost 775,000 during the war. Extant caps from this company appear in two main variants with some minor variations exhibited on others. This is the Type II variant, having a larger crown disc and squarer brim.
As with all of Bristol Hollow forage caps it is made with lightweight wool, hand dyed with real indigo. It has an enameled bill and soft glazed chinstrap.
