Original US M1816 Asa Holman Waters (Millbury, MA) Contract of 21,560 muskets delivered to the Federal Government between 1817 – 1836. Lock plate shows Waters marking of “US / A. WATERS” in front of the hammer and “MILLBURY / 1833” vertically behind the hammer. Butt plate marked “US / 2”. Inspectors cartouche faintly visible on left side of stock along with multiple owners’ initials “JSD / JLN / JR” on both sides of the stock. Ramrod is present, and barrel is good, with pitting surrounding the tang, hammer and bolster. Hammer cocks back strong, and appears mechanically sound.
